Phil is Chairman of The Third Stage group of companies which he founded in 2002.

In the past he has served as an advisor to the European Union Mobile Entertainment Interest Group. Phil is a Board member and the ex-Chairman of the mobile games publisher and distributor Telcogames Ltd, and Chairman of the Advisory Board of Working Lunch (Wales) the networking group.

Phil’s interest is in building companies with unique qualities and satisfied customers, whose management teams are supported and trusted as they grow.

Prior to founding The Third Stage, Phil worked in the technology venture capital field for the Vesta Group (www.vestacapital.com). He was headhunted to be COO of Vesta Wireless Works a business building unit within Vesta. As the group changed over the two year period his role morphed into a partners role in the Wireless Frontiers VC fund and from there into portfolio company revitalisation where he completed a 9 month assignment as CEO of Cybiko Inc. (www.cybiko.com) a wireless peer-to-peer company based in Chicago and Moscow. Phil established Vesta’s market fulfilment network, an alliance of companies throughout the value chain designed to ensure that start-ups can reach their markets with the greatest likelihood of being successful.

Prior to Vesta Phil spent 14 years with Nortel Networks, the last six years of which were spent in device and wireless roles. Whilst at Nortel he led the global team which developed the world’s first wireless JavaTM enabled client server solution, incorporating the first wireless JavaTM enabled mobile phone, and registering 17 patent applications. From there he moved into a P&L management role running enterprise and rural GSM solutions for Nortel in Paris. His final role in Nortel was to lead the 3G applications and services team which was instrumental in securing the BT Cellnet infrastructure order for Nortel valued at around $1Bn.

Phil is a proven leader of teams and businesses, with experience and deep connectivity throughout the technology value chain from venture capital to start-ups to major players.

They say:

"It is a pleasure working with Phil, who I have found to be solid, reliable, smart....and also fun! In wireless investments I'd rather invest with him than compete against him, and in terms of portfolio company rescues .... what he can't save isn't worth saving!” Esther Dyson, Chairperson, EDventures

“Phil is a good strategic thinker with his feet planted firmly on the ground. He has a track record for fostering innovation and building strong teams. He is a real ' make it happen' guy.” Ken Blakeslee, Chairman, Vesta Wireless Works
